High School Football Rules Will Govern

Game Time:
* 14 minute quarters. Clock will run straight through, stopping the last two minutes in quarters two and four for penalties [out of bounds, incomplete pass, change of possession]. After the ball is set, the offense has 30 seconds to get a play started.
* Three time-outs per half. Five minute half-time. Field size 120 x 50, 100 yard infield.
* Mouth guards are mandatory. If a player is without his mouth guard, the play in dead, a five yard penalty will be awarded [replay the down] & the player will sit out one play.
Weight:
* Players under the weight limit are eligible to carry the football. Players over the weight limit may not be used as BLOCKING BACKS, RUNNING BACKS or RECEIVERS. QUARTERBACKS may exceed the weight limit, but may not cross the line of scrimmage with the ball and are subject to the “in the grasp” rule in the backfield. If a person over the weight limit intercepts a pass or recovers a fumble, he can advance it. No orchestrated plays! There is no weight limit on DEFENSIVE POSITIONS. Players not eligible to carry the ball will have helmets marked with a black "X". Any player or coach that removes the "X" from a helmet will be disqualified for the remainder of the season.
Weight Limit:
There will be a weigh-in at the time of registration. There will be additional weigh-ins during the season. This helps to guarantee fairness to all players.
  • 6th grade - 105 lbs.
  • 7th grade - 125 lbs.
  • 8th grade - 145 lbs.
  • Freshmen- no limit
Scoring:
A team more than 20 points behind may opt to receive the kick-off after a touchdown by either team. This helps to control a game that may be turning into a severe blowout. A on-sides kick would be poor sportsmanship in this case. You may show your colors!
* Extra points will be obtained by kicking for 2 points or running for 1 point. Blitzing rule in effect.
* In kicking Field Goals & PAT’s, 6th grade only: No defensive rush and No fake kicks. Snap must be clean and kick away with in 5 seconds. In 7th and 8/9th the defense may rush te five d-lineman. The ball may not be advanced by the offense on a bad snap or blocked kick. The defense may score on either.
Conduct:
Any punch will be a 15 yard penalty and the player must be removed from the game for the series and possible ejection at the discretion of the official. Fighting, foul or abusive language will not be tolerated and may be cause for ejection. If a player is ejected they will be suspended for the next football game.

Ball Sizes: 6th = TDJ, 7th = TDY, 8/9th = TDY
100 yard field all age groups.
No players or coaches pass the 20 yard lines. Player boxes should be marked on all fields.

1. DB’s may bump receivers until the ball is released. Bumping after release will be holding
2. No Fumble ruskie or sleeper plays. Either play will be called dead and ruled as a loss of down.
3. 30 second play clock from whistle after 3rd game.
4. Overtime: 4 plays form ten yards out. Both teams will have even series. OT until someone wins.
5. Flag may be thrown on spectators after a team warning has been issued to the head coach.
6. Spearing, buckcenters, and head slapping will not be tolerated. Be quick to flag such action.
7. Illegal rush or Blitz. Offense may take the result of the play or accept 10 yards from the line on scrimmage and repeat
the down.
8. 6th Grade Punts: Must announce and no fake punts. No defensive rush.
9. 7th & 8th/9th Punt: This is a live play, live rush. Fakes are allowed.
10. 7th / 8th/9th PAT & Field goal: 5 man rush. No planned fake plays, offense may advance the ball on botched snaps. If officials feel the botch was pre planned the play will be blown dead.
11. 6th grade Pat & Field, no advancement or fakes. Botched snap will result in the play being blown dead.

We follow High School Football rules with the following exceptions:

  • Running in an extra point after a touchdown scores 1 point
  • Kicking a PAT scores 2 points

Kids must play in their own age group. They may NOT move up or down in divisions.

Recent Changes

In the past Springville Youth Football has had four 7th and 8th grade combined teams that have played each other in Springville. Now we have two 6th grade teams, two 7th grade teams, two 8th grade teams that will play Spanish Fork teams, Salem teams, and Payson teams in their age group.

If there are any Freshmen who don't feel like they want to play on a Freshman team - they can sign up to play with the 8th graders.

Remember to HAVE FUN!!!
